General Goal:
Acquire sufficient knowledge and skill in gynecological health, individually and collectively, from adolescence to old age, with emphasis on issues related to pregnancy, labor, and delivery, neonatal age to old age
Behavioral Learning Goals (Part I)
At the end of the program, students must be able to:
1. List the nursing goals of maternal and child health and their effective factors, and calculate at least four of the most important vital indicators of maternal and neonatal health.
2. Explain care standards and nursing process of maternal and child health (ethical and legal issues) and the effect of culture on them.
3. Name family and their types.
4. Explain puberty, first period and premenstrual syndrome.
5. Explain premenstrual syndrome and its effective factors, as well as complications and appropriate reactions when dealing with menopause.
6. Explain internal and external genital system and its performance.
7. Elaborate on the adjustment of ovarian and menstrual cycles and effects of hormones.
8. Describe developmental stages of embryonic growth, and explain differences between embryonic growth and development.
9. Explain spermatogenesis and gametogenesis stages and their transmissions.
10. Explain the formation of zygote, creation and development of placenta and amniotic fluids.
11. Elaborate on the importance of pregnancy health cares, evaluation of maternal health in pregnancy, routine visits, training the clients in relation to self-care and nutrition in pregnancy.
12. Explain common difficulties of pregnancy and methods to deal with them.
13. Explain the pregnancy health including exercise, travel, job, defecation, intercourse, and immunization.
14. Explain different procedures of embryonic health, disadvantages, and benefits of each procedures and their indications.
Behavioral Learning Goals (Part II)
1. Define terminology related to pregnancy and labor.
2. Describe the diagnosis of pregnancy according to its symptoms and be able to differentiate probable sign of pregnancy and real ones from each other.
3. Provide physical and mental elaboration on maternal physiological changes during pregnancy.
4. Based on abdominal examinations, explain types of presentation, position, status, limb position and presentation of embryo.
5. Explain the effective factors for natural labor and delivery, including maternal (types of pelvis and uterine contractions) and embryonic (size and position of embryo) factors.
6. Explain the theories related to the beginning of labor and delivery, and basic movements in natural labor and delivery mechanism.
7. Differentiate between symptoms of false labor and real contractions.
8. Describe the physiological changes during delivery according to their importance.
9. Explain different stages of natural labor and delivery, health cares at the time of delivery and postpartum.
10. Explain the causes of labor pain, and pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods of pain relief in labor.
11. Describe advantages and disadvantages of pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods of pain relief in labor.
12. Express the importance of genetics in maternal and child health, genetic counseling, and its indications in new medicine, and explain the transmission of genetic diseases.
13. Describe physical and physiological changes in puerperium and specific education during this stage, explain difficulties of this stage, such as sadness and depression after delivery, and elaborate on nursing interventions and necessary education.
14. Elaborate on physiologic changes, physical examination of newborns and neonatal reflexes.
15. Explain common neonatal cares in the delivery room and nursery.
16. Explain the benefits of breastfeeding, general principles of breastfeeding, breastfeeding position for newborns, and barriers to breastfeeding.
17. Explain purposes, definition, background, and importance of family planning according to Islamic points of view.
18. Express various types of natural and hormonal contraceptives, and by considering suitable candidates for each method, describe advantages and disadvantages of them.
19. Explain surgical contraception.

Teaching Methods:
Teaching methods include programmed lectures, question-answer, and team member teaching design (TMTD) according to mentioned behavioral goals and group discussions.
Responsibilities of Students:
· Regular and on-time attendance in classes
· Pre-studying based on prescribed topics
· Active participation in question-answer and class discussion
· Performing the assigned tasks
Assessments of Students:
Developmental evaluation (3 scores)
Regular and on-time attendance in class (1 score)
Providing and presenting class assignments and oral exam (4 scores)
Final exam (21 scores)
